Our Services at 10.30am and 6.30pm

We are looking forward to you leading our worship at Horizon and we offer the following information to help you in your preparation. We are at The Southdown Methodist Church and Community Centre, The Hollow, Bath, BA2 1NJ.

We have a team of Worship Leaders, who are willing to help plan services and to participate in leading Worship. Please contact me if you would like them to be involved.

At Southdown we are equipped with an Audio Visual system. We project hymn words and Bible readings and any other material you wish. We use Media Shout which incorporates song words and bible readings so please do not need provide power points for these. We can insert power point presentations, video and audio files into the running order to illustrate sermons, prayers or for reflection.  Please provide these (or links to them if they are on the internet). Each item (presentation or other file) should be separate and not merged into one.

Please note that we do have members who are visually impaired and therefore we do need to prepare paper based material for them (otherwise they are excluded from parts of the service), so please let us have your material in good time.

Even though hymns are projected, please announce the book and hymn number for those who are using books.

We recently had a service where a preacher used a video downloaded from you-tube and invited the congregation to follow the words on the video which was not possible for some. With notice we could have produced the words on paper for those people to follow.

 Bible Readings

We have access to many different versions of the bible on our projection system, unless you indicate a different version we will use the New International Version.

At the start of the service the duty Steward will lead prayer, give out any additional notices and then welcome you.

We have a book in which members of the Church Family can write requests for prayer, the duty steward will check this before the service, you are asked to include any prayer requests in the service.

The congregation at Horizon welcome a variety of styles of worship.

We sometimes have 1 or 2 young children in church at morning services, they will normally be following their own planned session (so no children’s address is necessary) but would welcome the opportunity to share what they have done before the last hymn.

We normally record services for our housebound members and friends.

In a Holy Communion Service we use the Orders of Service for Communion in the Methodist Worship Book.  The congregation do find it helpful if the minister says at which page and paragraph we are at relevant points. We do invite everyone of all ages to partake of the elements if they so desire.

Please note therefore

- Everything with any words on it which goes on the screen needs to be printed, please send this by Friday or bring a large print copy with you so that we can photocopy.

- Please announce clearly the hymn number and which book it is from

- If choosing a hymn other than from Singing the Faith, Songs of Fellowship (books 1-4) or Hymns and Psalms, please check with us by the Tuesday to see if we can access it and have a suitable tune. We do not have Mission Praise or CMP, please do not select from these books, we are happy to check if any hymn is in the books we do have.

 - Please let us know if you wish bible readings from a version other than the New International Version by Friday so a copy of the reading from the right version can be made available to the reader, included in the projection and printed for those needing paper copies.

- This is very important to some of our members and essential in helping everyone to feel included in worship.

Please e-mail (julia.barratt@btinternet.com) or telephone (01225 312616) our organist Julia Barratt with your order of service. We ask for an Order of Service so that we can set up hymns and readings in the right order.

In a Holy Communion Service we use the Orders of Service for Communion in the Methodist Worship Book.  The congregation do find it helpful if the minister says at which page and paragraph we are at relevant points. We do invite everyone of all ages to partake of the elements if they so desire.
